Legal Aid

Legal Aid

On 1 April 2013, major changes were introduced to legal aid by LASPO ( the Legal Aid, Sentencing and Punishment of Offenders Act 2012 ) which restrict the availability of legal aid in family cases.

Legal Aid is still available for :

  • Advice about domestic violence and injunction proceedings
  • Care proceedings and public law proceedings
  • Private law children proceedings where there is evidence that the child is at risk of abuse
  • Other family proceedings, eg. divorce or financial applications, where there is evidence of domestic violence
  • Family mediation and legal advice during mediation
  • Cases where the Legal Aid Agency determine that it is an exceptional case

Free diagnostic interview

We offer a free first interview to advise on the availability of legal aid and how to obtain the necessary evidence of domestic violence or child abuse where this will be necessary.

If you are outside the scope of legal aid, we can provide information about our fees and the availability of fixed fees for specified pieces of work.
